There are still a good number of farms which have grain stores consisting of square bins which are slow and difficult to use. They also present significant health and safety problems. However, there are very often opportunities for continued use or reuse of the bins rather than complete demolition.
On one site where the bins had lain redundant, new high-capacity elevators and conveyors and bin ventilation were installed as the bins have hopper bottoms so no shovelling was needed.
On another site the bins have been taken down and reused to make two on-floor store areas within the building as well as increased capacity conveying equipment.
